A Ministry of Color

The Legacy and Renewal of Covenant’s Stained Glass

For over 70 years, the stained-glass windows of Covenant Presbyterian Church have illuminated the sanctuary with vibrant color and meaning, thanks to a unique partnership with the renowned Willet Studios. Originally installed in 1953 under the artistic leadership of Henry Lee Willet and Rev. Warner L. Hall, the windows became a treasured part of Covenant’s spiritual identity. In 2020, Covenant embarked on a bold journey to replace imagery that celebrated a racist past inconsistent with the church’s values, commissioning new windows that honor African American leaders, women, and institutions central to the Presbyterian Church and broader community. Returning to Willet Studios, the church worked closely with designers and artisans to ensure the new pieces reflected both the historic style and Covenant’s renewed values. Featuring figures like Katie Cannon and Daniel J. Sanders, the new windows blend beauty, legacy, and purpose — offering a fresh witness through a timeless medium. This ongoing collaboration continues to bear faithful witness to God’s justice, creativity, and light.
