capital campaign nears conclusion

On March 25, 2018, you proved, once again, that the Covenant community lives into its mission statement of bravely working toward a whole and just world by committing your financial resources to support our capital campaign For a Whole Community.  Not only did this congregation meet, but exceed, our campaign goal by pledging $12.9 million to create a more welcoming campus, to construct affordable housing units and to care for children.

Covenant committed to “work toward a common good, by offering love, by dedicating our greatest talents and strengths to the effort, by pooling our considerable resources, and by standing collectively as a beacon of social justice.” Three years later, we have so much to be proud of as we have fulfilled all of our commitments and will soon extend additional support into the affordable housing crisis in our community with an additional $500,000.

We are grateful for those that have fulfilled their financial commitments, and we are counting on every dollar pledged to cross the finish line strong.  We are closing in on the three-year anniversary of Commitment Sunday – wouldn’t it be wonderful to have the beautiful mosaic 100 percent complete so you can see the image when you come to campus for Celebration of Life festivities on on Saturday, April 3?

scholarships available
for college students

For many years, Covenant has awarded scholarships to deserving college students for undergraduate and graduate
studies through the Douglas E. Matthias Scholarship Program.

The undergraduate fund provides need-based support for graduating high school seniors and current college freshmen. Scholarships are also available for study at Union Presbyterian Seminary and any graduate study that leads to a life of Christian service. Applications are due April 15.

The Susan F. & Stephen J. Talley Music Scholarship was established to honor the skill and spirit that Susan and Steve
Talley brought to Covenant's music ministry. The scholarship provides funds for the study of traditional church music at a seminary or college, organ study at an intermediate or higher level and/or church music conference participation by Covenant high school youth interested in traditional church music.

young adults plan a busy march of service, learning

Second Saturday Service: Outdoor Work At Rebound, March 13, 8:30 am-12:30 pm
Rebound provides free Christian residential drug and alcohol recovery services for men who would not otherwise be able to afford such services. They’re looking for our help with an outdoor campus beautification project.

Coffeehouse: Faith In The Real World (online), Sunday, March 21, 9:30-10:30 am
Coffeehouse is our interactive discussion forum. Built on the idea that we can learn from each other, Coffeehouse offers a rare opportunity for people of all views to share their perspectives in a respectful, welcoming, and inclusive environment. In March, we'll look together at the question of how our faith can survive the experience of natural disasters.

Young Adults Monthly Bible Study: Tuesday March 30, 7:00-8:00 pm
It’s hard to believe, but Holy Week starts on March 28 (Palm Sunday). Why not plan to dedicate a portion of your time that week to studying Scripture alongside your peers? Join us for our ever-popular Monthly Bible Study. The study is open to all experience levels.

youth ministry plans mix of remote, in-person events

Youth ministry at Covenant is a joyful, invitational time that invites authentic relationships, provides a space to express faith and doubts, and has broad involvement in the life of the church. With that in mind, here are ways to engage:

Discernment Worship for Juniors and Seniors: Join us for a workshop to learn discernment skills for life decisions, big and small, on Sunday, March 14 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm.

High School Youth Group This Week: We'll join together at Freedom Park just like we did for our first youth group of the school year! We’ll meet at the park shelter closest to 2435 Cumberland Ave, Charlotte, NC 28203. Join us from 4 pm-5 pm for a chance to hang out with friends, play some games and catch up! Please be sure to wear a mask and come prepared to fill out our health screening questionnaire.

On behalf of the Presbytery of Charlotte, Revs. Bob Henderson and Jerry Cannon will host
a day of friendship, fun, bridge-building and connection
on April 5 (Easter Monday) at Skybrook Golf Course in Huntersville.

All 36 spots have been filled. A waiting list is now available using the link below.
This will be an 18-hole, modified Texas Scramble format that welcomes

clergy, laity, elders, guests, and family members.
