Director of Traditional Music
Covenant Presbyterian is seeking a passionate and dedicated Traditional Music Director to lead and enrich our church’s worship experience. Duties and Responsibilities
The Traditional Music Director at Covenant will play a key role in shaping the spiritual and musical life of our congregation. The candidate for this position must possess the talent, skills, and desire to fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:

Pastoral
- Minister through music by inspiring spiritual growth and connection within the congregation, staff, and volunteers.
- Mentor and guide adult, youth, and children’s choirs in their faith journey.
- Uphold the church’s mission and values through sacred music.
Musical
- Plan rehearsals, worship services, and special event programs, including weddings and funerals.
- Prepare and conduct music for the Chancel (adult), Chapel, and Youth Choirs, including rehearsals, anthem selection, and special works.
- Oversee children’s music programs, preparing and conducting at least one children’s choir.
- Oversee the carillon program and volunteer schedule.
- Oversee and coordinate instrumentalists (volunteers and professionals).
- Hire and supervise staff singers and choral scholars.
- Supervise and mentor other traditional music staff.
- Oversee handbell choirs.
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Contemporary Worship & Arts.
Administrative
- Participate in weekly worship planning meetings to include hymn selection, liturgies, and instrumental offerings.
- Maintain traditional music budget, including instrument maintenance.
- Attend staff planning and informational meetings.
- Work with communications staff on worship and special event promotion.
- Oversee music library maintenance and contracting with professionals.
- Coordinate volunteer Chancel Choir officers and section managers.

- Bachelor’s degree in music; additional post-graduate study in sacred music or worship studies is desirable.
- Minimum of five years of experience as a Director of Music.
- Proven leadership role in choral conducting and church administration.
- Collaborative approach to ministry and excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to enhance the congregation’s worship experience through high-quality music.
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers and have strong pastoral, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary will be $100k+ and commensurate with experience. Benefits include:
- PTO: 15 days per year
- 11 paid holidays per year
- Competitive benefits including health insurance (Blue Cross & Blue Shield) and a 6% annual retirement contribution.
