Covenant names Grace Lindvall as Associate Pastor for Education

Grace Lindvall is Covenant's new associate pastor for education following a unanimous vote by the congregation this morning.

A search commitee chaired by Mary Lou Daly recommended Grace following a nationwide search. Grace is familiar to many at Covenant, having served in a temporary capacity since May.

Prior to her time at Covenant, Grace served as an associate pastor at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte since 2015. She holds a BA in political science and English and a Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. Grace has held various internships during seminary, including youth ministry, worship leadership and Bible study curriculum development. She also served in Rwanda and Kenya.
In Grace's own words, "I am thrilled to have felt a call to serve among Covenant Presbyterian Church, a church whose ministry I have long admired. I look forward to building relationships with the people of the church in worship, conversation and fellowship together as we witness and participate in all that God is doing in our lives at Covenant and beyond."

Grace is married to Matt Lackey, who works at Wells Fargo. Matt is a rare Charlotte native, having grown up on Lake Norman. Matt and Grace were married just over a year ago in Charlotte. They live in Plaza Midwood with their 1-year old Black Lab, Birdie.

Grace’s perspective on ministry

On the value of Christian education
Christian education helps to root disciples and seekers in their faith. I tend to think of Christian education more aptly as Christian formation, as we are continually formed and reformed as disciples of Christ. Christian education helps to equip us for the journey through life’s joys and challenges. It is most valuable when it challenges, equips and encourages us in how we live as Christians.

On her impressions of Covenant
Hearing about the church from afar for several years, I was always impressed that Covenant was willing to engage challenging topics and step into the community in bold, meaningful ways. Having gotten to know Covenant more intimately, I realize this congregation is also a warm, inviting community. I have enjoyed witnessing the engagement of church leaders and the grace with which people are welcomed to this place.

Insights from colleagues of Grace

Grace is in touch with so many (congregants) - she’s a wonderfully creative collaborator who puts relationships first. My one-word description of her is “devout.”

Grace was a top performer and award winner at Princeton Theological Seminary. But she is too gracious and kind to tell that part of her story. She is always more interested in others and their stories. And it has been amazing to watch her demonstrate that every day since she joined us.
