Recreation Ministry

Welcome to Covenant's Recreation Ministries. We nurture good health - spiritual and physical - through a ministry of wellness, fitness, and fun. In our Recreation Center, we offer programs to strengthen minds, bodies, and spirits, while using our facilities and events to reach out to our neighbors in Charlotte. 

Below you will find information about our programs that range from personal training to summer camps to sports leagues to group exercise. 

Liz, Holly, and the Jolly Lollies (Ages 3-6)

What is self-control? How do we practice mindfulness? How can music play a role in your child’s social and emotional development? The Jolly Lollies created their music and Afterschool program to help answer these questions! Enroll online at www.jollylollies.com. Come join on the following days: Wednesdays of September 19th and 26th; October 3rd and 10th from 12:40-2pm. Cost is only $60.

Discovery Afternoon (Ages 3-5)

Children will learn science, engineering, mathematics, art, and yoga. They will explore materials, experiments, making observations, and hypothesize. They will also be able to gain strength and flexibility both mentally and physically. Beginning Monday, September 10th from 12:30-2pm. Soccer Shots Classic Afterschool (Ages 3-6)

Soccer Shots classic utilize creative and imaginative games to focus on basic soccer skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. Also, highlight a positive character trait each session such as respect, teamwork, and appreciation. Enroll online at www.charlotte.ssreg.org. Beginning Friday September 14th from 12:30-2pm. Cost: $163 (12-week session)

Covenant Sportskidz (Ages 3-6)

Children will develop physical skills, get exercise, have fun, and sportsmanship. They will be sports activities and games. Beginning Tuesdays, September 25th from 12:45-1:30pm. Contact Kevin Harper at kevin.harper@covenantpresby.org or rwdesk@covenantpresby.org for further information.

Basketball

45+ Pick-Up Basketball: Sundays 3:00 - 5:00 pm.

One-on-One Basketball Lessons:  Take your game to the next level!  Get trained by: Ricky Price, former Duke & Overseas Professional Player.  See his website and information here http://www.gamereadysd.com

Basketball Court Rentals: Looking for a court so your group or business can have weekly basketball games?  We are your place for just $50 an hour!  Contact us today about your gym rental needs.

Youth Basketball League:  Youth fall/winter basketball league.  Registration runs mid-September through mid-October.  Registration runs Sept. 17 to Oct. 19.

Fitness

(You do not have to be a Recreation Center member to participate.)

Memberships: Covenant offers memberships to the Fitness Center.  With the membership you gain access to the weight room, track, lockers, showers and basketball court.

Personal Training: Our certified trainers offer one-on-one, buddy, and small group personal training. Fees vary.

Group Exercise Classes:  We offer Yoga, Functional Fitness, Boot Camp, Running Group, Stroller Strides, Body Back, and Total Body Training. Class types, days, times, and price packages vary.  First class free!  

Functional Fitness for Adults 60+: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: 9:30 - 10:30 am  Exercise under the guidance of a licensed physical therapist. First Class Free!

Total Body Training: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-10am.  Work out your entire body utilizing weights, bars, bands, balls, your body, and the environment.  First class free, then only $8 drop-in fee.

Stroller Strides:   A total fitness program that parents can do with their babies. It includes power walking and intervals of strength and body toning exercises using exercise tubing, the stroller, and the environment.  Every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday from 10:45am-11:45am.  For more information see their website at Fit4mom Meet in the Rec Center Lobby.

Private Yoga: One on one yoga sessions with Stephanie Jeon.

Devoted Fitness: Jesus music, ladies dancing, sweating, and praising... That's Devoted Fitness!  Group fitness for your soul. We minister to others through faith, fitness, and fellowship. 

Body Back: Under the Stroller Strides umbrella, Body Back® is a results-based workout designed for moms who want their body back; whether they just had a baby or their last child was born twenty years ago!

Yoga:

     Deep Stretch, Yin Flow:  A class designed to connect movement with breath, repeating movements and holding for longer periods to build strength and lengthen muscles.

     Yoga + Prayer: Covenant Yoga is experiential worship specifically created to deepen your connection to Christ.  Our sole  purpose is to combine world class yoga with a Christ honoring experience that offers an opportunity to believers and non-believers alike to authentically connect with God

     Gentle & Relax Yoga: First Class Free! Beginners always welcome... mats, blocks and straps provided.      

     Seated Yoga: Great class for the older folks!

      Afternoon Yoga: Start the weekend off the right way.  Reduce the stress from the week while gaing strength and stamina. 

Hip-Hop Fitness: Hip Hop Fitness uses simple hip hop moves combined with upbeat music to keep you moving the whole time. Hip Hop is a great class to get your cardio workout, and have fun while doing it

Children's Programs  

Party Rentals:  Rent our facility for your child's birthday, holiday, sports, movie theater, or dance party!  Have full use of the court, dining/activity area and game room.  Balls, scooters, skates, parachute, and more!  Two hour block of time.  Cost for members is $75, for non-members cost is $100.  Bounce houses available for $35. 

Youth Basketball League:  Youth fall/winter basketball league with Playbook for Life.  Registration runs September through early-October. 

Discovery Afternoon: Extend the daily preschool curriculum while exploring science and the arts while discovering the world around us.

Summer Camps:  We have you covered with offereing from basketball, soccer, art, music, yoga and preschool!

Other Activities and Groups

Coed Adult Sports Leagues:  During the year we offer kickball, softball, volleyball, soccer, and flag football.  Call 704.334.7491 to learn what league is currently enrolling.  For rain outs call SportsLink rainout line 704.749.7530

The Word Play Writing Class: Bring your pen, paper, and imagination for this fun writing class. Nurture your mind, body, and spirit through creative writing and poetry classes. Workshops also held. Dates and fees vary. Visit http://www.maureenryangriffin.com, or call Maureen at 704.494.9961.

We are a recycle drop off point for old keys, cell phones, old jewerly, rechargeable batteries, ink cartridges, and corks!     

Weekday Lunch (Tuesday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

Most weeks, we offer a nutritious and delicious lunch in our Fellowship Hall. Bring a friend or work colleague to enjoy good food and fellowship – open to all.

Lunch includes soup, salad bar, entree, side, dessert and drink for $7.
