Apply for People in Mission college summer experience

Each summer, Covenant offers its college students a transformative 10-week experience working with people served by our local nonprofits. It's a way for you to advance the cause of social justice in Charlotte and gain experience in a variety of leadership roles. Pay is very competitive.

Your role with a local nonprofit organization is coupled with a weekly reflection in which students and church staff understand where faith and poverty intersect.

The internship is May 26 to July 31. A stipend is paid. Deadline to apply is March 1.

Below, Kate Capitano recalls her work in 2018 with Center for Community Transitions.

What I’ve learned about compassion can’t be taught in a classroom. I learned that my passion will never come from an activity, but from how I am able to conduct myself in the world as an arm of God -- not trying to change anyone but to walk beside them and to try my best to understand their journey.

It taught me that what breaks the heart of God can also break mine, but how to exist alongside that pain and not let it consume me.

My gladness comes from compassion and meets the dire need of the marginalized to find accessible healthcare...the human in me recognizes the human in them.
