Trip to Hopewell Presbyterian
Barbecue lunch at historic church
Located in North Mecklenburg, Hopewell is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in the 1830s but its congregation dates back to the 1740s. Wednesday, May 17. We'll leave from Covenant at 10 a.m. and return by 3 p.m. A check for $12 reserves your spot and covers lunch.
"From Inspiration to Illumination" Video – Wednesday, June 21
We'll gather at 10:30 for refreshments in Room 201 of the Education Wing. At 11:00 we will view the video, “From Inspiration to Illumination” which features Tim Ternes, Director of The Saint John's Bible Project, speaking about how the project came to be and explaining some of the artwork in the bible. His presentation is entertaining and charming. We will also have some posters of some of the art work that he describes so that you can see them in detail. No RSVP required, just join us if you can.
Montreat Presbyterian Heritage Center – Wednesday, June 28
We'll be travelling to Montreat, NC for a day of education and fellowship. We will visit the Presbyterian Heritage Center and have lunch in the newly renovated Assembly Inn. After lunch Dr. Ann Laird Jones, director of arts ministry at Montreat Conference Center, will offer a presentation about the St. John’s Bible. We will be able to see, touch and engage with the Gospel/Acts volume. The St. John’s Bible is the first hand-written, hand-illuminated Bible to be commissioned by a Benedictine monastery in 500 years. After our time with the Bible, participants may choose one of three options: 1. A craft project related to the St. John’s Bible illumination art (costs an additional $2 to be included with your reservation), 2. Visit Ten Thousand Villages to shop or 3. View the Long fresco in the chapel. We will depart from the church at 8:30 AM and return around 6:30 PM. Please be aware that the trip will require quite a bit of walking and stair climbing.
A check for $20.00 made to Covenant Presbyterian Church and turned in to Parish Nurse, Mary Mattiacci, reserves your spot and covers lunch. Please include $2.00 extra if you would like to participate in the illumination project.
Please note there will be no TLC programming in July. We are hard at work planning an exciting late summer and early fall for you!!
