Help the Hungry in Charlotte
Deliver Friendship Trays with a Covenant staff member. Join a church staff member in delivering Friendship Trays meals to the elderly or home bound. This often can be done over the lunch hour on a weekday. It's a one-time commitment with opportunities for continued involvement. Covenant has committed to delivering on the first Tuesday and third Monday of each month. Children are welcome.
Donate food to Loaves and Fishes. Covenant supports Loaves & Fishes, a local food pantry, with non-perishable food donations. We have two food drives each year, one in February in conjunction with a city-wide food drive, and one in the fall. Non-perishable food can be donated in baskets in each Sunday or placed in plastic bins in the Recreation Wing during the week. Volunteers take the food to the Loaves & Fishes Pantry at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church or Park Road.
Donate to 10 Cents a Meal. What would a meal cost for your family at a fast food restaurant? Teach your children a simple lesson in service and donate that money to non-profits that feed the hungry in our community. Money is collected by Covenant children the first Sunday of each month.
Walk the CROP Walk. Charlotte is home to the world's largest CROP walk. Each October, almost always on a beautiful fall afternoon, Covenant members join thousands in our community to walk for those who are hungry. Twenty -five percent of all proceeds benefit Charlotte-area nonprofits.
Make Texas Hash. Five times per year volunteers from Covenant serve donated Texas Hash casseroles to the over 300 homeless men who rely on the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte. Dinner servers and Texas Hash makers are always needed. Texas Hash can be prepared at home at anytime and stored in a church freezer. Recipe here.
