Joan’s deep commitment to ministry began as a young person growing up in the Presbyterian Church, and over the years it has found many forms of expression. She embraces the rich tradition of Reformed faith and has particular interest in worship and preaching.
“I believe we are created for God and find our completion and purpose only in God,” Joan says. “As a pastor I am called to proclaim the good news of this Gospel in its saving, healing, and transforming power through Jesus Christ. And I do so gladly.”
Joan is a native of North Carolina who spent her early years in Virginia and Tennessee before moving to Texas. She holds degrees from Columbia Theological Seminary (D. Min.), Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary (M.Div.); Presbyterian School of Christian Education - now Union/PSCE (M.A.); University of North Texas (B.S.) and is a certified Christian educator.
Over a 20 year period, Joan served several Texas churches, primarily as a Christian educator, but also doing pastoral care, worship leadership and preaching. She was called to Covenant Presbyterian in July 2003 and has served as Associate Minister for Christian Education and Spiritual Formation.
She and her husband, David, an architectural illustrator and real estate broker, relocated to Charlotte along with their two children: David, Jr., and Ann. Joan’s avocations include gardening and being in nature, interior design, photography, writing, travel, reading, good conversations and lots of laughter!
