Reynosa Summer Mission Trip, July 10-18
By Ben McCormick
Words cannot begin to express the excitement and anticipation around the Reynosa trip this July! For those that have been to Reynosa, you already know, it’s the place where you truly realize how powerful God’s love is. It is the place that takes you outside of your comfort zone and forces you to recalibrate your priorities. For those that haven’t been – it will change you. It’s overwhelming and humbling to be there.
Reynosa gives us the opportunity to live, work and worship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s a chance to ‘leave it all behind’ and get away from all of the creature comforts and distractions of everyday life we are so used to having. Journal entries from our 2008 trip remind me of the unbreakable bond with fellow Covenant members, of singing with smiling children in the afternoon church service, and of happily and vigorously mixing concrete for hours in the hot Mexican sun. Take some time to read through these and you’ll begin to understand why Reynosa is such a special place.
We have a fantastic, fun group of Covenant members already signed up for the trip – we need some more! If you’re like most, you’ve told yourself over and over that you’d like to go. Of course, the hardest part is letting go and just saying ‘yes.’ Sure you have to deal with being away from work; yes, your family will miss you; and yes you’ll need to DVR the latest episode of your favorite TV show. I promise you though, the experiences you will have, the friendships you will make and the spiritual gifts you will uncover will last a lifetime.
The application is available here. Your gifts are needed in Mexico! Please pray about it!
“We all have gifts. They differ in keeping with the grace that God has given each of us. Do you have the gift of prophecy? Then use it in keeping with the faith you have. Is it your gift to serve? Then serve. Is it teaching? Then teach. Is it telling others how they should live? Then tell them. Is it giving to those who are in need? Then give freely. Is it being a leader? Then work hard at it. Is it showing mercy? Then do it cheerfully.”
“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord.”
Romans 12: 6-8 & 10-11
