Typical Day at Preschool
Field Trips
Covenant Preschool is located in the heart of Dilworth, close to many of Charlotte's cultural and education opportunities. Fours and fives classes catch the city bus in front of the school and take field trips to places like uptown parks, the Charlotte Observer, Winghaven Gardens, and the Nature Museum.
Playgrounds
covenant has three outdoor playgrounds with developmentally appropriate equipment. Our youngest classes have direct access to their playground from their classrooms. During inclement weather, indoor playground equipment is set up on the gym floor in the church recreation wing.
Art Studio
The art studio at Covenant Presbyterian Preschool offers multi-dimensional art opportunities for our children that go a step further than the artwork that is done in the classroom. The studio is designed to encourage, enlighten and engage your child's spirit in an understanding of and response to his or her world.
The studio is guided by the belief that children are natural artists and that they come to this space with rich and viable ideas and a desire to express both feelings and thoughts.
Color, reflection, transparency, symmetry, order and design blend in the studio to create an atmosphere that invited the child to consider ideas, solve problems, express feelings, interpret experiences, and experiment with familiar objects in new ways. Here, a variety of open-ended materials are introduced to stimulate curiosity, encourage the exploration of new possibilities, and gain self-confidence through creative ventures.
These projects as well as classroom masterpieces are displayed in our annual Art Gallery each spring.
Music
All students have music and movement in their classrooms. Creative expression is essential in a young child's development. We offer experiences in music that encourage children to discover strengths and develop interests and talents.
Woodworking
Woodworking is a favorite at Covenant Preschool and is a unique hands-on activity where children get to saw, hammer and nail in a safe, supervised environment. Using recycled wood, Styrofoam, beads and corks, future builders can create wooden masterpieces, many of which are featured in the annual Art Gallery.
