Mexico Missions - Reynosa 2009
Covenant high school
students and their chaperones are spending the week in Reynosa, Mexico, across the
border from McAllen, TX. Working with Faith Ministry (
www.faithministry.org ), they are building simple
cinderblock homes for local families and leading Bible school for the children.
Sunday,
June 21
High school
mission trippers arrived safely in McAllen, Texas after spending
the night at First Presbyterian in Kingsville, Texas. Sunday
after worship they headed to McAllen, Texas to meet with David
Rodriquez, executive director of Faith Ministry, who told them
about the houses they will build with the brothers and sisters
in Reynosa Mexico. Following their last American meal for a
week, they safely crossed the border settling into the a week of
building houses, building community and their relationship with
Christ.
Monday, June 22 - Todo
Bien - "All Well." It feels like 106!
Wednesday, June 24
These are photos of one group preparing the roof…or sitting!
Roof work is HOT with a capital “H”! Many breaks needed…and
seem to be taken!
Bible School - More than 40 children
attended.
These photos
are taken at the mid day service which is held at 1:00 each day
following a meal where Covenant's high schoolers and the Mexican have eaten
together. Many times the women of the household will make a hot
lunch for the volunteers and trust those who've been there, tt is the most absolute
best authentic Mexican food you will eat! Unidos! Unidos!
and Dame la Mano are two of the favorite songs of the groups.
"Unidos" often will cause folks to shed a tear or two by the end
of the week as they all hold hands and sing…"United, United"…and
they really seem to feel that in Christ we truly are all united.
It is a great way to close the week.
